There are various treatment methods nowadays for the haemorrhoidal disease:
- Conservative treatment with ointments, ligation rings, and sclerotherapy usually have temporary effects.
- Surgery such as ligation, laser or radiofrequency ablation, haemorrhoidopexy (Longo) and haemorrhoidectomy have a longer lasting and more permanent effect. None of them is ideal for all patients regarding postoperative discomfort, initial outcome and relapses.
The surgeon should be able to perform all of them and select the one that is best for each patient.
Patients who have frequent and severe bleeding or prolonged bleeding and prolapse should be operated.
